Triple Pane Windows

Thin triple-pane/glazed windows are a relatively new technology that offer improved energy efficiency and insulation compared to traditional single- or double-pane windows. Here are some of the latest developments in thin triple-glazed windows:

• Advancements in technology: Recent advances in window technology have made thin triple-pane windows lighter and more suitable for retrofit applications. They feature thinner sheets of glass, two low-emissivity (low-e) coatings, and two sealed gas pockets that significantly enhance a window’s insulative capacity (see energy).
• Cost and availability: Thin triple-pane windows are currently the most energy-efficient, commercially available windows on the market, but they cost 10-40% more than typical windows. This higher cost can make them out of reach for some consumers. However, a new generation of thin triple-pane windows is less expensive and can be more easily retrofitted into existing double-pane frames (see pnnl).
• Sound reduction: A recent study confirmed that the installation of thin triple-panes reduced sound infiltration by an average of 8-10 decibels when compared to double-pane windows
